Top 10 or 11 :)

In Training all RAs received the Top Ten things an RA in each building should know- those were developed so that you as RAs had all the necessary things at your finger tips and on one piece of paper.

Well those are not the only top ten lists that exist! Some professionals and former RAs have also make lists of the Top Ten Things RAs should know and some of them can be found on the web on sites like this.

But just in case you do not get to that site- here are the top 10 or 11 things you should know as an RA from residentassistant.com

Top Eleven Things an RA Should Know
  1. Your supervisor’s phone number :)
  2. Be consistent: people in crisis seek help from people they trust.
  3. The RA job can be the best job of your life.
  4. The mistakes that you own up to are the ones you learn from.
  5. Your staff is there to support you.
  6. There are no stupid questions: asking questions is how people learn.
  7. Your students are growing and developing, just like you.
  8. Perfection is unrealistic.
  9. Developing community takes time–it won’t happen after 1 or 2 programs
  10. Ambiguity is a part of the job.
  11. Confidentiality builds trust and complies with the law–even though it may be frustrating.
